VDR isn’t a new projector, and it’s not a new mastering requirement. It’s enabling technology that delivers on the promise of a premium cinema experience for audiences and reduces the total cost of ownership by enhancing existing Christie CineLife+™ projectors with RealLaser™ illumination technology.
And it’s available through a simple software update.
This technological innovation enables your projector to analyze every video frame in real-time. Working with existing content, whether it’s standard or HDR content, VDR computes the light level required per frame and modifies the output laser power as needed to reduce laser power and increase contrast. Content is optimized for contrast, black-level detail, and power savings, all while retaining the original creative intent.
With VDR, images are definitively better, not just manipulated to look that way. Deeper blacks reveal details you never knew existed, bringing a new dimension to every scene.
Enabled through precise interframe laser power control on CineLife+ RealLaser projectors, VDR transforms contrast in ways traditional projection can’t. The result is breathtaking visuals with contrast up to 10,000:1, revealing subtle textures, shadow detail, and depth that audiences have never experienced before.
The impact goes beyond the screen: VDR can reduce laser power consumption by up to 30% and extend laser lifetime by up to 50%, making cinema presentations more efficient, as well as more spectacular. With increased energy savings over the already impressive 14.6 lumens per watt found in our projectors, exhibitors benefit from a lower total cost of ownership while offering audiences an even better moviegoing experience.
