ALBACETE, Spain – A building with nearly a century-long connection to cinema exhibition is once again screening films after more than 20 years, thanks to Christie® RGB pure laser projectors. The historic Cine Productor, located in Albacete in southeastern Spain, has reopened following a full renovation as Odeon Productor, a four-screen complex operated by Spanish exhibitor Odeon Multicines and equipped with four Christie CineLife™ CP2309-RGB projectors
Equipo de Cine, a long-standing Odeon partner, carried out the projection system integration. Odeon Multicines operates 18 cinema complexes across Spain, totalling 161 screens.
The reopening brings cinema back to central Albacete, after more than two decades without screens in this area, restoring a landmark venue whose history dates back to the early days of film exhibition in the city. The building began hosting screenings in the late 1920s and, after the Spanish Civil War, reopened as Cinema Productor, and was one of Albacete’s main cultural meeting points for decades.
The new Odeon Productor has been fully redesigned to meet modern exhibition standards while preserving the building’s historic character. The main auditorium seats approximately 120, and also hosts presentations, events, and cultural gatherings, while the remaining three auditoriums provide more intimate capacities ranging from 70 to 90 seats.
“We have worked with Christie for many years and are very familiar with the reliability and performance of their equipment. We have around 80 Christie projectors installed across our cinemas, which gives us great confidence in the brand,” says Juan García, operations manager at Odeon Multicines. “Christie technology allows us to deliver consistent image quality and strong operational stability, which is essential for cinema exhibition.”
All four auditoriums at Odeon Productor are equipped with Christie CineLife CP2309-RGB projectors. “We selected this model because it combines a compact footprint with pure RGB laser technology, enabling excellent image quality even in mid-sized auditoriums. It also offers high energy efficiency and reduced maintenance compared to previous technologies,” García explains.
The Christie CP2309-RGB is a DCI-compliant projector featuring Christie RealLaser™ illumination technology, which uses solid-state laser modules to deliver 9,000 lumens of brightness, a 2,000:1 contrast ratio, and more than 95% coverage of the Rec. 2020 color space, producing images with more accurate colors, deeper blacks, and outstanding on-screen uniformity.
For Odeon Multicines, the reopening of this historic cinema represents a balance between technological innovation and cultural preservation. “For Odeon, it is very important to recover venues with a strong cinematic heritage and return them to the public with state-of-the-art technology,” García adds. “The goal is to respect the cinema’s historical value while delivering a fully modern audiovisual experience.”
García concludes: “Our objective is to continue offering the best possible image quality to audiences. The gradual adoption of RGB laser projection is part of that strategy, and Christie is a key technology partner in achieving it.”
