We spoke with Ian Tyler, executive director, Global Professional Services and Technical Training, and Michael Majstorovic, training manager, Systems and Solutions, about what we offer and some exciting new additions to our training portfolio.
Hands-on learning, certification, and CTS-RU
In our in-person training programs, attendees get a hands-on experience working on Christie projectors.
Ian Tyler is responsible for global technical training, and with almost 30 years of experience at Christie, he knows a thing or two about our technology. “I’m focused on creating a holistic and curriculum-based approach where we cover installation, operation, and maintenance in our level one courses, and focus on service, troubleshooting, and advanced adjustments in our level two courses,” he explains.
With a combination of online and in-person training, attendees can expect to get hands-on with our technology. “The courses end with a test, and then you’re considered Christie Certified for that specific product series or family.”
Our certification-based courses cover all of our product lines, including direct view and projection for Cinema and ProAV applications. Once certified, you can repair your equipment while maintaining your product warranty.
“The exciting news is that a selection of our certification programs and courses are now eligible for CTS Renewal Units,” explains Michael. CTU-RUs are now available for our Sapphire 4K40-RGBH, M 4K Series and Griffyn Series in-person certification programs. Each class is eligible for 7.5 RUs towards your CTS, CTS-I, or CTS-D designation.
How to register
Our training courses cover all of our product lines, including our large venue projectors like Griffyn Series and M 4K RGB Series.
Now that we have our exciting news covered, you’ll want to know how to register for our courses. To start, you’re going to log into Christie University. If you don’t have a login, that’s not a problem. Follow the prompts to register.
Once you’ve logged in, you’ll notice that you can select from our catalog of courses and live training sessions.
For example, if you’d like to register for a live training session on Griffyn Series in Kitchener, you’ll select “live training sessions”, followed by “product training”. Clicking on “Griffyn Series” will allow you to choose your session. From there, you can select the next training in Kitchener by clicking “enroll”. Our team receives your request and will respond to advise if you’ve been accepted.
“You’ll receive an invitation from us to attend,” explains Michael. “We provide the name of the trainer, details on the location, and information on nearby hotels if needed.”
For users who would prefer to learn about their Christie technology at their own pace, we offer a catalogue of online-only courses, which are available 24/7 at no charge. Track your progress online, and login where you left off.
What to expect
“We know that many people learn through doing, so we like to offer learners time working on a product rather than teaching from a PowerPoint, for example,” says Michael.
In-person classes are limited to eight participants. Smaller class sizes allow for more focused instruction.
“It’s a much different experience to work hands-on,” says Ian. “You have the chance to work on a product, and if you break it, it’s fine, we can fix it! We have products that are dedicated to training, so we can take them apart and put them back together again in our courses.”
What others have said about our training
While we think our training programs are amongst the best in the industry, we’re completely biased. So, let’s look at some of the feedback from attendees who have participated in an in-person course between January 2024 and now. Out of 78 participants:
- 99% said they were either “likely” or “very likely” to recommend training to a colleague;
- 89% said they were overall “very satisfied” with the training;
- 97% said they were either “likely” or “very likely” to attend a future technical training session.
- And 100% of participants said the instructor effectively engaged them and facilitated learning.
