From construction to projection, we talk to Phoenix Theatres in this video series
Starting and running your own cinema chain sounds like the stuff dreams are made of. But for Cory Jacobson, it was the evolution of a career that began in the exhibition industry. After working for United Artists Theaters, he struck out on his own twenty-five years ago with the first location of Phoenix Theatres and hasn’t looked back since.
Now, Phoenix Theatres has 79 screens across nine locations and recently worked with Integrity Entertainment Systems to open its newest location at Governor’s Square Mall in Clarksville, Tennessee.
I had a chance to sit down with Cory, Phoenix Theatres’ CEO, and Jordan Hohman, vice president of project development, to talk about selecting and refurbishing theatres and what it takes to deliver an exceptional audience experience.
Governor’s Square Mall
Jordan and Cory discuss the challenges and benefits of refurbishing Governor’s Square Mall—now Phoenix Theatres’ ninth location—from the literal studs.
The guest experience begins in the lobby
Jordan and Cory explain the surprising inspiration they took from a trip to the Dolby Screening Room Hollywood Vine, California, including the installation of Christie 1DLP projection at Governor’s Square Mall.
Selecting the right projection technology
Phoenix Theatres uses Christie digital cinema projectors throughout its circuit. Jordan and Cory explain why they continue to choose Christie, from reliability and longevity to technical support.
What’s next for Phoenix Theatres
Jordan and Cory talk about what’s next for Phoenix Theatres, and what they’ve learned from retrofitting theatres to deliver an exceptional audience experience.
