Antigua Guatemala’s Festival of Light

September 29, 2025

ANTIGUA GUATEMALA– (September 29, 2025) – Christie® projection solutions lit up the historic façades of Antigua Guatemala during the recent Festival de la Luz de Antigua (“Festival of Light”), the country’s first large-scale video mapping festival. The immersive event transformed the UNESCO World Heritage city into a vibrant canvas of light, storytelling, and artistic expression.

Organized by Blessure Guatemala, with technological integration by Sipro (both part of the AMR Group), the festival used Christie DWU23-HS 1DLP® laser projectors to power spectacular architectural projections across the city’s iconic churches and public spaces.

The Festival de la Luz drew more than 200,000 visitors who experienced the city like never before. “We wanted to bring Antigua to life in an extraordinary way,” said Daniel García, Innovation and Development Manager at Blessure Guatemala. “By projecting onto colonial façades with Christie technology, artists were able to tell stories with complete creative freedom, connecting people with heritage, memory, and imagination.”

Projection played a central role in the festival’s programming, which also featured light installations, new media art exhibitions, and a conference and workshop series on digital art. “The light became a language for sharing stories — stories of the land, of dreams, and of our people,” García added.

Christie’s projection technology was selected for its rich color reproduction, image quality, and proven reliability. “Christie was part of the solution because of the visual excellence it provides,” said García. “We’ve used Christie in many previous events, including the annual mapping of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Guatemala City. It has always delivered.”

Freddy Maita, global sales and operations at GloballAccess, the Christie distributor supporting the project, explained: “AMR is a long-time Christie customer and a trusted partner of GloballAccess. They already own several Christie projectors, including the DWU23-HS. This familiarity with the brand’s robustness and performance made it a natural fit.”

Christie projectors were used across a range of experiences, including video mapping competitions, digital art showcases, and immersive installations in parks and public squares. “Christie technology helped turn Antigua’s architectural heritage into dynamic storytelling surfaces,” said Maita. “It enabled vibrant, high-impact visual narratives that were technically seamless and artistically powerful.”

Alan Mejía, CEO of Blessure, added: “The attendance at this 2025 edition has made the festival the largest video mapping event in Central America. Without a doubt, an incredible achievement — made possible hand in hand with Christie and its high-quality equipment.”

Diego Lopez, Christie Sales Director Latin America, concluded: “It’s exciting to see our projection technology being used to highlight the cultural and architectural richness of Antigua, one of the world’s most beautiful historic cities. We’re proud to support local teams like Blessure Guatemala and Sipro in bringing this unique artistic vision to life and helping connect communities through shared visual experiences.”
